Dr. Mannion joined the faculty of Kennesaw State University in August, 2007. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Georgia State University. His current research focuses on the life and reputation of Ulysses S. Grant. His master’s thesis was an analysis of Ulysses S. Grant and the Republican Party in 1880. His Ph.D. dissertation was a study of the public memory of Grant from his service in the Civil War through modern times. His latest article on Grant, “A Thousand Kisses from the Front: The Distorted Memory of Ulysses S. Grant in the American Civil War,” was recently published in Memory and Mythology: Modern War and the Construction of Historical Memory, 1775-2000, ed., Natalia Starostina, (2014).
