Dr. Joseph L. Meeler joined the faculty at KSU in 2009. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Georgia State University, a master’s degree in history from the University of West Georgia, and another master’s degree in education from Georgia State University. He is a retired US Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel and an honor graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. His research focuses on the United States Army’s little-known participation on the Italian Front in the First World War, a subject about which he has delivered programs for the Great War Society, the Western Front Association, and local historical societies.
Prior to coming to KSU, Dr. Meeler served as a Visiting Lecturer at both Georgia State University and the University of West Georgia. Before entering the academic world in late life, he was a businessman and a partner in an insurance agency in Marietta, Georgia. He served over twenty seven years in the active and reserve components of the US Army, having the opportunity to teach at the US Army Field Artillery School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
