"Lost Squadron: Recovering the WWII P-38" With Guest Speakers Pat Epps and Richard Taylor

April 19, 2012 ( 9:30AM - 10:45AM )

In 1942, 25 US Army Air Force airmen, flying six P-38s and two B-17s , made a forced landing on the Greenland ice cap, 60 miles south of the Arctic Circle. In 1992, the Atlanta-based Greenland Expedition Society recovered the first P-38 from beneath 265 feet of arctic ice. They removed the plane from the ice piece-by-piece and returned it to the sky in 2002 .
